Left or Right Click Not Working? Instant Mouse Button Test & Fixes

Test your mouse now — click the left and right zones. If one side never lights or the count jumps, follow the fixes below.

You tap left click and nothing happens—or right click keeps opening menus twice. Let’s confirm if your mouse buttons are registering and walk through the fastest fixes.

Quick checklist (do this first)

  • Try another USB port or short cable.
  • Disconnect other pointing devices that might hijack input.
  • Close vendor software overlays (some macro layers block buttons).

Common causes and fixes

  1. Loose cable or receiver — reseat the USB plug; for wireless, move the dongle closer or swap batteries.
  2. Driver or profile conflicts — reset profiles in Logitech G Hub, Razer Synapse, Corsair iCUE; delete stuck macros.
  3. Micro-switch wear — if a click sometimes registers twice (double click) or not at all, the switch leaf may be worn. Light compressed-air cleaning can help briefly; long term you need a switch swap or a new mouse.
  4. OS settings
    • Windows: Settings -> Mouse -> swap primary/secondary off; check double-click speed slider.
    • macOS: System Settings -> Mouse -> Secondary click enabled; adjust click speed.

Test side buttons?

This tool focuses on left/right and scroll. If your side buttons send standard browser back/forward, test them in another app (e.g., a text editor) to see if they emit key codes. For gaming mice, map them to unused keys and verify in-game.

When to RMA or replace

  • Button fails on multiple PCs and cables
  • Visible bounce (single press counts as 2) after cleaning and profile reset
  • PCB or switch damage from spills
