Mouse DPI Test

Measure your mouse's actual DPI by moving it a known physical distance. No software or drivers required — all calculations run locally in your browser.

Mouse DPI Calculator

Measure your mouse's actual DPI by moving it a known physical distance. Works with any mouse — no software required. For best accuracy, disable mouse acceleration (Enhance Pointer Precision) in Windows first.

For accuracy: disable Enhance Pointer Precision in Windows Mouse Settings (Control Panel → Mouse → Pointer Options) before measuring.

How the DPI Calculator Works

Four simple steps to an accurate DPI measurement.

1

Set Your Unit

Choose centimetres or inches as your measurement unit. Have a ruler ready on your desk.

2

Enter Physical Distance

Type how far you plan to move the mouse — for example, 10 cm or 4 inches. Longer distances give more accurate readings.

3

Click and Drag

Hold the mouse button down in the test area and physically move your mouse the exact distance you entered. The browser counts every pixel moved.

4

Read Your DPI

Release the button. The tool divides the pixel count by your physical distance (converted to inches) to give your true DPI.

DPI Ranges Explained

What different DPI settings mean for gaming and everyday use.

400–800 DPI

Competitive FPS

Used by most pro FPS players. Pairs with large mousepad for precision.

800–1600 DPI

All-round Gaming

Versatile range for most games and desktop use on 1080p–1440p monitors.

1600–3200 DPI

MOBA & RTS

Fast cursor movement across large maps. Common in League of Legends and StarCraft.

3200+ DPI

High-res & Productivity

Best on 4K monitors or for users who prefer minimal wrist movement.

Why Measure Your DPI?

Common reasons gamers and power users run this test.

Verify True DPI

Confirm your mouse's actual DPI matches the manufacturer's spec.

Find Your Ideal Sensitivity

Dial in eDPI by measuring hardware DPI then adjusting in-game sensitivity.

Test After Firmware Update

Check if a driver or firmware update changed your mouse's actual DPI.

Compare Multiple Mice

Measure different mice side-by-side to find the most consistent sensor.

Troubleshooting Inaccurate Readings

Common causes of incorrect DPI measurements and how to fix them.

Result differs from software

Disable mouse acceleration (Windows: uncheck Enhance Pointer Precision) and set pointer speed to 6/11.

Inconsistent readings

Take 3–5 measurements and average them. Ensure you move in a straight line.

Cursor jumps or skips

Clean the mouse sensor and mousepad. Low-quality surfaces cause tracking errors.

Result is exactly 2× or 0.5×

Your OS pointer scaling may be at a non-default setting. Set Windows pointer speed to the center (6/11) notch.

Mouse DPI Glossary

Key terms every gamer should know.

DPI
Dots Per Inch — how many pixels the cursor moves per inch of physical mouse movement.
CPI
Counts Per Inch — the technically correct hardware term, functionally identical to DPI.
eDPI
Effective DPI = Hardware DPI × In-game sensitivity. Used to compare sensitivities across players.
Mouse Acceleration
A setting that increases cursor speed based on movement speed, breaking muscle memory. Disable for gaming.
Polling Rate
How many times per second the mouse reports its position to the PC. 1000 Hz is standard for gaming.

Tips for Accurate DPI Measurement

Prepare your setup to get the most reliable reading.

Disable Mouse Acceleration

Turn off Enhance Pointer Precision in Windows for accurate, consistent DPI readings.

Use a Hard Mousepad

Smooth, consistent surfaces give the sensor a reliable tracking reference.

Keep Your Sensor Clean

Dust or debris on the sensor lens causes tracking errors. Clean with a dry cotton swab.

Update Mouse Firmware

Manufacturers sometimes push sensor accuracy improvements via firmware. Check your mouse software.

Mouse DPI Test FAQ

Common questions about mouse DPI, sensitivity, and measurement accuracy.

About This Tool

Methodology: DPI is calculated by dividing browser-measured pixel displacement by the physical distance you move your mouse (entered in cm or inches). No server calls are made — all computation runs locally.

About: We test with multiple mice across Windows and macOS. Results match manufacturer specs within ±2% when mouse acceleration is disabled and pointer speed is at the 6/11 default.

Disclaimer: Measurement accuracy depends on how precisely you measure physical mouse movement. Use a ruler for best results.
