Microphone Test Not Working in Your Browser? Permission and Device Fixes
If an online microphone test cannot hear you, check browser permissions, the selected input device, OS privacy settings, exclusive mode, Bluetooth headset profiles, and HTTPS.
Run a microphone test online to check your mic input level, peak clipping, and live audio waveform without installing software. Works with USB microphones, headset mics, Bluetooth mics, and built-in laptop microphones.
Ready to test your microphone
Your browser will ask for microphone permission. Audio is processed locally and never sent to any server.
This microphone test online uses the browser's getUserMedia API to access your microphone and the Web Audio AnalyserNode to measure input levels and visualize the waveform in real time. Audio is processed entirely in your browser — nothing is recorded or transmitted. The volume percentage is calculated from the RMS of the audio signal, and the waveform canvas updates at up to 60 frames per second.
Plug-and-play with built-in DAC. Works with any browser on Windows, macOS, and Linux. Shown as "USB Audio Device" or by brand name.
Supported on all platforms. Typically lower quality with higher background noise pickup. Check gain settings if volume is too low.
TRRS 3.5mm combo jacks (headphone + mic) work on most devices. Separate TRS mic jacks require a splitter or USB adapter on newer laptops.
XLR microphones connected via USB audio interface appear as a USB device and work seamlessly. Set interface as default input in OS settings.
